HAI CEO Rob van Gils is new Vice President of the Executive Committee of the European Aluminium

The CEO of Hammerer Aluminium Industries, Rob van Gils, was elected Vice-Chairman of the Executive Committee of the European industry association European Aluminium at the spring meeting.

Ranshofen (02.05.2023) – The CEO of aluminium expert Hammerer Aluminium Industries (HAI), Rob van Gils, has been elected Vice-Chairman of the Executive Committee of the European industry association European Aluminium.

Active industry representation for the aluminium industry

Aluminium expert Hammerer Aluminium Industries (HAI) is very active in the aluminium industry’s trade associations. Rob van Gils in particular is a driving force in the European aluminium industry as an industry representative and experienced negotiator. His commitment was underpinned by his election as Vice-Chairman of the Executive Committee of the European industry association European Aluminium.

Emphasis on the strategic importance of aluminium

On the occasion of his election, Rob van Gils emphasised the strategic importance of the aluminium industry for Europe: “Our industry is an essential part of Europe’s economic and social fabric, providing jobs and sustainable aluminium for countless green technologies. However, the industry is currently facing what is probably the toughest test in its history. Price developments on the energy markets are depriving large parts of the industry of their competitiveness. Political measures are urgently needed to reduce energy prices back to the usual global level,” van Gils appealed.

Aluminium is a critical raw material for the transformation to CO2-neutral energy production (e.g. solar energy) as well as for e-mobility. It is therefore important that aluminium is also recognised as a strategic raw material in the Critical Raw Materials Act currently being negotiated.
